ALL MOTIVATION
Today’s Modern student is under more pressure to perform than ever before. Does your child feel stressed, overwhelmed and anxious? Or, on the other hand, does your child feel insecure, uninspired, and often uninspired ? Often, results in school have nothing to do with ability, and little to do with your child’s genius. Instead it’s to do with your child’s level of motivation. For instance, kids can be bright yet bored of maths. It really doesn’t matter how much competence and talent your child may have, until they become confident and have the mind set to focus.
Are You Ready To Give Your Teen The Motivated Mind Set they need to succeed in Maths?
All Motivation is the difference between distracted and desire. The key to school success is motivation not tuition. If your teen is staring out the window instead of at their maths book…All Motivation will keep them captivated and concentrating.
When your teen is magnetically drawn to maths the results start to rebound and skyrocket but when your teen is not studying and uninterested the results can be rather poor. And the report will reflect this. It can drive parents insane. Every time you look, they are on a study break, watching TV, or staring aimlessly into the fridge. All they tell you is that they’re on a break or they’ve finished their homework, or they don’t have any school work to complete. What can you do to help?
So you hire a tutor…which you think will help the situation. Notice the problem study isn’t being done.
Now your teen’s confidence builds because the tutor is going to help, so the tutor arrives and does maths question after maths question and explaining the theory to your child while they listen and watch as if they’re at the movies eating popcorn. Is it possible your child is gaining a false sense of confidence? You know…The tutor explained it to me therefore I must understand?
Now lets get perfectly honest…just because the tutor explained the maths…does that necessarily mean they understand it? And even if they do understand it does that mean they are now motivated…even to do their own study?
You see, Learning is an emotion. The heart needs to be in it. Your child needs to be determined and driven with interest in order to learn effectively. So what’s different about All Motivation?
My task is to motivate by increasing desire, boosting self belief, and building up the confidence…and most importantly, helping your Child feel good about maths so they take action. So what will this do, you ask? Quite simply, Imagine your child propelled to their desk with amazing study power and persistence. With the ability to mobilise their motivation muscles with complete focus and concentration! That’s true learning.
All Motivation Matters… Why being spellbound is better than being spoonfed.
Without Motivation, your child would only have monotonous tuition. Spoon fed tuition is like being on welfare. It creates dependency on the tutor and not empowerment on the learner. So the next time your child is confused or frustrated with maths, and the tutor jumps in and helps…well?...that’s akin to throwing a lifesaver so they never actually learn how to swim…instead they depend on the lifesaver to float.
Now for most students maths is not a fun activity. In fact, maths is not enjoyable to study…right? So your child may procrastinate and distract themselves…as most students do. Why? Because maths is perceived as difficult, hard, boring, dull, drab, and dead pan. The most common perception is “Maths is Boring.”
Now…no matter how much tuition and study skills…and ability…and intelligence your child may have, no matter how talented or gifted they are…then isn’t it obvious that no amount of tuition can help create success in maths. Unless and until boredom is transformed into “Buzzing with excitement”, “interested” and “desire” to succeed, Maths will remain boring and therefore difficult to understand and to stay motivated. What I do is change the way your child feels about maths. And create new associations. For instance, “Maths is Magnificent.”
Now imagine your child smiling every time maths is mentioned. What if your child believes maths is cool, fun and easy? Do you think maths would be easy to learn now? Imagine your child bubbling with excitement and being curious as a caterpillar on a leaf…when they’re studying maths. The moment their enthusiasm for a subject increases, is the moment their scores start to skyrocket. And the more interest they have, the easier it is to learn.
Intelligence is Nothing, Interest is Everything.
In school your child is not taught how to activate and access their ability. Is your child shown how to switch on their brain for learning? If your child is feeling bad about maths, lacking belief in their ability, wanting to do well but just can’t do the work, then what they need is motivation. A coach to encourage to inspire them, A coach to help your child get energised to apply themselves. Often school can affect your child with negativity and the culture can be critical of anyone who actually enjoys and wants to study…since it’s not cool. The key to unlocking your child’s intelligence is interest. It’s what I call the WOW factor. Why is it kids can learn swear words so easy, yet can’t remember what 4 x 6 equals? Why is it so difficult to remember how to spell “separate” and so easy to remember all your favourite football players?
Have you ever noticed during tax time…you suddenly find the time to do the things you usually wouldn’t do…except your tax. Have you ever had mounting paper work to complete but yet you find the time to watch your favourite television program, spring clean the entire house, wash your car…basically everything but the paper work. Similarly have you ever noticed that your child may find lots of other things to do during exam time? … other than study for exams. Have you ever asked your child, “Have you done your work?” and they respond Yes! … And usually they’re sitting in front of the television or computer screen. Clearly they have the intelligence to do the work - and you know they’ve got the ability…they just don’t have the interest. Attitude is more important than ability. And feeling good about study and maths is essential if we are to improve results. Your child’s emotions are they key to unlocking their potential. Learning is a feeling, and your child will study and learn in direct proportion to how they feel about maths. For example, have you ever asked your child, “How’s Maths?”…what sort of response do you get? Perhaps one of these may fit:
- Maths…… is….… alright . (In a slow, tired ……and reluctant, almost arbitrary tone)
Or if they’re absolutely honest with you
- Maths is boring
- Maths is hard
- Maths sucks
- Maths is crap
What should Maths feel like? Easy…fun…make sense… interesting… engaging… stimulating… rewarding… challenging… fascinating etc. Until and unless your child feels better about maths…the results are unlikely to get better. I believe that in order for your child to do their best, first they need to feel their best. By transforming the way your child feels about learning, study and maths, we can transform your child’s results. What I do is make your child feel good about their text book, enjoy the geometry, find interests in calculus, and get excited about algebra. Today’s students don’t understand how their emotions work, how to get themselves to feel good about learning and how to change their state when they’re feeling down. Motivation is a state that I can help your child achieve regularly in study. Imagine your child on the edge of their seat pumped up and determined. What would it mean to you to know your child has skill sets to transform their emotions. Remember, Intelligence is nothing, interest is everything.
If your child expects maths to be boring or hard… Then that’s what it is. You can see it as they slowly drag their feet to the desk, nagging themselves, slowly hunching over the table as if they’re depressed, looking dejected – no wonder maths is hard. They are creating the boredom. You see, boredom is not something they have, its something they do. So too is interest, imagine your child running to their desk, smiling, nodding approvingly and launching into maths with outright confidence and energy… eagerly flipping through pages… taking notes vigorously with genuine enthusiasm and interest in what they’re doing!
From Droopy Eyelid Tuition To Eye-Popping, High Performance Maths.
That’s what I do. I make study and maths compelling and appealing. This not only improves concentration and focus, but also your child’s memory and capacity to recall. What this means is that memorizing formulas are a breeze. That’s what motivation can do. Isn’t it true, that when you cultivate curiosity you harvest results?
Its not the maths, it’s the mood. Its not the study, it’s the state. Let me help your child reignite their lost love of learning and cultivate their curiosity.
Why Most Students Underperform in Maths and How to make it Motivating and Magnetic To Study It.
Now I can hear you asking the question “But you can’t have them interested and motivated all the time, can you?” Yes you’re right. I believe the key is not to have them interested once in a while, but rather to have them motivated all the time. So that maths becomes rewarding in itself. What I will do with your child is use a process called conditioning (Not “practice” because this is boring). Conditioning is the process of associating strong states to maths. For example, maths is fun. By getting your child into a fun and curious state and THEN teaching the maths, it is easy to absorb. Maths feels like fun. Unfortunately, most teachers and tutors unknowingly create negative associations to maths. First the child is in a bored and uninterested state, “be quiet and don’t talk” (this is code for feel miserable before I teach you something). Now the teacher attempts and tries to teach algebra… Soon the student discovers that algebra is “hard” or “algebra is boring”. Unfortunately many teachers and tutors think that teaching and learning maths is a logical process… Devoid of any emotions. When teaching doesn’t work ….. then the way to fix it is to…….teach more ! A parent may say to their child “Johnny, you know how you are struggling and can’t stand maths…. Well guess what ?.... we got you a tutor…..so now you can have more maths ! So instead of supporting positive feelings in learning….. the tutor piles and dumps more on poor Johnny. The school system and coaching colleges are actually conditioning “pain” to learning. Remember, learning is an emotion, regardless of subject. Real teaching of maths is not a logical process. If maths was so logical, then why do most students procrastinate, avoid and struggle at maths?
Why All Motivation is more important than all the tuition in the world.
First I motivate, then I educate. Isn’t it true that athletes warm up their muscles, stretch and loosen up their limbs… and ready their minds by visualising and anticipating success before they take action. You never see athletes sitting down, drinking coffee and acting bored and then launching into a race. Yet most teachers and tutors do this today. Teachers and tutors instruct based on logic, while students respond and learn based on emotion. Have you ever noticed nagging doesn’t work? You know it doesn’t work yet you do it anyway, just in case.
